Safaricom Plc, Kenya’s largest mobile operator, is bundling home internet with shared mobile allowances as it tries to deepen its fixed-broadband business.
Safaricom Plc introduced a plan on Monday that lets Home Fibre customers add up to five family members to share mobile data or voice minutes, combining fixed and mobile services on a single bill.
The Family Share plan starts at 3,749 Kenyan shillings and includes 40 megabits per second broadband. Subscribers can choose to share either 750 voice minutes or 14 gigabytes of mobile data. It is open to new and existing fibre customers.
The launch comes as the Nairobi-based company pushes to get more households onto its fibre network. Active fibre-to-the-home customers have risen 27%, and the share of connected homes with active subscriptions has climbed to 71.0% from 66.8%, Safaricom said.
“People work, learn, travel, explore and stay connected across different spaces, and they want greater value without added complexity,” said Fawzia Ali, Safaricom’s chief consumer business officer. The plan is part of the company’s “Pata More” value initiative.
Customers can sign up through the My OneApp, by dialling *400#, or at Safaricom shops and authorised dealers.
