Kenya’s Affordable Airlines and the Domestic Routes They Serve

Kenya’s domestic aviation market has several affordable airlines operating scheduled passenger services between Nairobi and destinations across the country.

Fares vary by route, travel date, availability, and the services included with each ticket.

Among the top affordable airlines are Jambojet, Skyward Airlines, Safarilink Aviation, and Kenya Airways, which operate different route networks and fare structures.

Domestic one-way tickets range from about KSh2,990 to more than KSh11,000 on selected Nairobi routes, with economy fares of up to KSh8,300 on some domestic services.

Skyward Airlines

Skyward Airlines operates domestic services from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with its network covering destinations including Mombasa, Eldoret, Malindi, Lamu, Ukunda, Lodwar, Kitale, Migori and Vipingo.

Additionally, the airline notes that all flights include carry-on baggage.

The airline also lists additional services including extra baggage, seat selection, extra-legroom options, Ebari CIP Lounge access and parcel services.

During travel, Siyawarde Airlines operates the 50-seat Fokker 50 on several domestic services and the Fokker 70 on some routes.

Jambojet Among Kenya’s Affordable Airlines

Jambojet is also among the affordable airlines in the country and operates a low-cost domestic network connecting Nairobi with several destinations.

Jambojet operates flights from Nairobi to Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda (Diani) and Lamu, as well as regional connections between Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu.

Unlike airlines that may include baggage in the ticket price, Jambojet separates the basic airfare from additional services.

The fare depends on the services the passenger selects, the route, the travel date, and availability.

Current 2026 fares show Nairobi-Kisumu tickets from about KSh5,500 one way, while Nairobi-Lamu fares range from KSh9,500 one way.

According to the airline, passengers are allowed one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10kg, with maximum dimensions of 55cm by 35cm by 25cm.

“All passengers are allowed to carry 1 piece of hand luggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg. Hand Luggage is restricted to 1 piece of hand baggage (Maximum weight: 10kg. Dimensions:55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm),” Jambojet states.

Checked baggage is charged separately, with prepaid rates currently listed at KSh750 for luggage weighing up to 20kg, KSh1,750 for 21kg to 26kg and KSh2,750 for 27kg to 32kg.

Safarilink Aviation

Safarilink Aviation operates scheduled flights linking Nairobi’s Wilson Airport with safari destinations, coastal towns and other locations in Kenya.

Its network includes destinations such as Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, Nanyuki, Lamu, Malindi, Mombasa, Diani and Kisumu.

The airline’s baggage policy specifies a 15kg total allowance per passenger, including hand baggage, for most destinations.

However, the allowance is 20kg for passengers traveling to or from Entebbe, Zanzibar, Malindi, Mombasa, Diani, Lamu and Kisumu.

Passengers with additional luggage can purchase excess baggage in advance in 10kg, 20kg or 30kg bundles.

The airline also offers a freight-seat option on qualifying safari routes for passengers who need to carry additional baggage.

Safarilink requires that you request items such as surfboards, bicycles, and golf bags in advance.

Golf bags may be accepted on Dash 8 flights at individual discretion for US$20 per bag per sector.

Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways operates domestic services on major routes including Nairobi-Mombasa, Nairobi-Kisumu and Nairobi-Mombasa-Kisumu connections.

The Airline offers both Economy and Business Class on its domestic flights.

It also charges additional baggage fees and offers meals on board its domestic services.

The airline’s domestic Embraer 190 aircraft have 12 Business Class seats and 84 Economy seats, with a 38-inch seat pitch in Business Class and 32 inches in Economy.
