Kenya's first Ebola patient and a woman later diagnosed in Nigeria travelled through Entebbe on the same day, while a missing Ugandan contact complicates efforts to trace potential exposure.
Kenya's Ebola investigation has taken a new regional twist after health officials revealed that the country's first confirmed patient and a woman later diagnosed with the virus in Nigeria passed through Uganda's Entebbe International Airport on the same day, raising questions about possible cross-border exposure.
The revelation has put Uganda at the centre of investigations involving three countries, with authorities examining whether the two patients crossed paths at the airport on October 3 and where the Nigerian woman contracted the virus.
Kenya's first confirmed Ebola patient died in Nairobi on October 5 after travelling from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through Uganda. The patient had passed through Entebbe two days earlier, according to Wessam Mankoula, head of emergency preparedness and response at the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
