The event provided a platform for Somali writers, authors, publishers, artists, journalists, and other members of the creative community to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate the contribution of literature and the arts to Somali society.

Despite internal burst of challenges stalking its prosperity, Somalia’s literary dominance in the diaspora is ushering a new dawn of writing that celebrates a rich legacy, culture, history and politics of its people.

During the Somali International Book Fair & Arts 2026 that took place on Saturday, October 17, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, US, Somali’s literary, artistic, and cultural communities came for an evening celebrating books, creativity, knowledge, and cultural expression.

Organised around the themes of literature, arts, and cultural engagement, the gathering comes at a time when Somali writers and creatives continue to play an important role in documenting the community’s experiences, preserving its language and traditions, and sharing Somali stories with audiences around the world.

It exposed how Somali’s creatives continue to churn out literary works that keep the Somali culture awake. This year alone, several books have been written about Somali culture, food, lifestyle and politics.
