Court grants DCI 14 days to detain police inspector over Mutiso and Mbobu murders
Description (show more)
A Milimani court has granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI, 14 days to detain Police Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang over the murders of Dr Victoria Mutiso and lawyer Kyalo Mbobu. Sang was arrested in Eldoret after allegedly going into hiding. Investigators say a Mini Jericho pistol issued to Sang was linked through ballistic tests to cartridge cases and a bullet head recovered during the probe. The DCI wants more time to interrogate him, conduct searches and gather additional evidence. Detectives also suspect Sang of helping plan an attack on Dr Mutiso near Junction Mall along Ngong Road on July 7, 2026, when she allegedly escaped two armed men riding a motorcycle. Investigators are also probing his suspected role in Mbobu’s killing on September 9, 2025. Sang is expected to undergo a mental assessment before plea-taking.
