Kindiki warns against political interference in illicit alcohol crackdown

Description (show more)

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned against political interference in the government’s crackdown on illicit alcohol and narcotics cartels, insisting that enforcement will remain intelligence-led and free from political influence. Speaking in Karen, Kindiki said the government had intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of illicit alcohol and drugs. He said the crackdown would be driven by covert intelligence operations under a centralised multi-agency command. Kindiki also announced plans to tighten regulation of second-generation alcohol manufacturers, citing public health, environmental, security and quality concerns.
