Description (show more)

Caroline Waithera, also known as Spice, shares her real-life story on Tales by Titus 254. Born and raised in Dandora, Caroline’s education ended in Class 6 due to financial hardship. Her life took a drastic turn when her mother was arrested and imprisoned in Lang’ata for assaulting someone with a knife, leaving Caroline to fend for herself. Struggling to survive, Caroline fell in with a group of friends who introduced her to a lifestyle she wasn’t familiar with. One day, she met a man she confided in, hoping he would help her. Instead, he took her to a plot where he lived with friends and sexually assaulted her under the guise of offering support. After the assault, Caroline encountered a woman who encouraged her to report the incident to the police. The man was arrested and jailed for six months. When Caroline’s mother was released from prison, the perpetrator’s mother pleaded with them to drop the case. Caroline’s mother demanded KSh 50,000; they paid the police KSh 20,000 and kept KSh 30,000. The man was released. Soon after, Caroline’s mother became pregnant again, placing the responsibility of caring for the newborn on Caroline. She resorted to begging on the streets with her sibling to survive. Her mother, consumed by alcoholism, neglected them and often sold the food Caroline managed to buy just to fund her drinking. Caroline later became pregnant by another man while still caring for her younger brother. Her baby’s father was arrested for theft and remanded. Feeling overwhelmed, Caroline told her mother she could no longer support her. Desperate, Caroline entered a relationship with another man, pretending to love him so he would provide for her and her children. One day, he took her to a hospital for a scan, but his real intention was to rob the facility. He stole the doctor’s phone and fled, leaving Caroline behind. The doctor reported her as an accomplice, and she was arrested. The trauma triggered early labor while she was in police custody. Officers rushed her to the hospital, where she gave birth with them waiting outside. She was later taken to court, but the prosecutor, moved by her situation, released her. Caroline then moved in with another woman, unaware of the nature of her work. The woman brought men into the house and demanded Caroline sleep with them for money, despite her recent childbirth and stitches. With nowhere else to go, Caroline felt she had no choice but to comply.
