High Court pardons IG Douglas Kanja in contempt case
Description (show more)
The High Court in Milimani, Nairobi, has pardoned the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, over the police force’s failure to comply with orders barring the barricading of roads during the June 25 Gen Z anniversary protests in 2026. The courts had earlier found the police boss in contempt of the orders which were issued on Monday, July 7, 2025, restricting the police from blocking roads without prior notice to the public. In her ruling, Justice Patricia Nyaundi however, warned that a repeat of the violation would prompt the court to issue a custodial sentence to the police boss.
