Kenyan private sector calls for faster shift to circular economy
Description (show more)
The private sector in Kenya is calling for the acceleration of the shift towards a circular economy as businesses and policymakers seek to strengthen local production, reduce waste and build resilience amid growing geopolitical and economic uncertainties. Speaking during the 11th annual Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) Circular Economy Conference, proponents of a circular economy argued that circularity could provide an opportunity for Kenya to make greater use of locally available resources, creating new business and improving livelihoods through employment in the recycling sector, which remains heavily informal. They say commercial success and environmental wellbeing are increasingly intertwined, requiring businesses to consider how economic, environmental and social interests can be incorporated into their operations.
