High Court spares IG Kanja jail over contempt of court
Description (show more)
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has escaped a custodial sentence after the High Court pardoned him in a contempt of court case. The court, however, issued Kanja a stern warning, saying it would not hesitate to punish him if he repeats the violation. Kanja had been found guilty of contempt after police violated a court order barring them from preventing citizens from accessing Nairobi’s CBD to mark the anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z protests. Ben Kirui tells us more.
