UASU urges Parliament to amend university funding law amid lecturers’ strike
Description (show more)
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) has asked Parliament to amend the proposed law on tertiary education funding, warning that it does not explicitly guarantee government funding for public university staff salaries and collective bargaining agreements. The submission to the National Assembly Education Committee comes as striking lecturers seek the intervention of legislators to resolve the ongoing strike, now in its fourth week. Meanwhile, the Universities Fund is calling for a consolidated approach to scholarship funding, citing a 16-billion-shilling shortfall between university scholarship needs and the government’s allocation for the current financial year.
