Maraga-led coalition warns of election rigging plot over lack of mandatory livestreaming
Description (show more)
Members of the People’s Coalition on Electoral Reforms, led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, now claim there is a plot to rig the upcoming general election, following Parliament’s failure to make livestreaming of election results mandatory for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC. The group, which brings together political parties, faith-based organizations, professional associations, civil society groups, academia and student movements, says it will introduce a bill seeking to amend the contentious clause. The coalition says the proposed changes are aimed at enhancing transparency and strengthening public trust ahead of next year’s elections.
