Three dead, two critical after suspected illicit alcohol consumption in Kimende
Description (show more)
Three people have been confirmed dead while two others are in critical condition after allegedly consuming second-generation alcohol at a local club in Kimende town, Kiambu County. The five were among several people drinking at the establishment, where the alcohol is suspected to have been brewed and supplied to outlets within the town. The victims’ relatives are calling for the resumption of a crackdown on second-generation alcohol manufacturing, which they say is on the rise. Local leaders have faulted the Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Kenya Revenue Authority, accusing them of failing to adequately monitor the quality of alcohol sold in clubs. More victims are reported to be emerging.
