Teargas disrupted the Linda Mwananchi rally at Makutano in Meru as supporters were forced to scramble for safety. Despite the interruption, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna continued addressing the crowd as opposition leaders publicly backed his bid to become the movement’s presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2027 General Election. Babu Owino, George Natembeya, Godfrey Osotsi and former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza were among those reported to have endorsed Sifuna. The leaders also criticised President William Ruto’s administration over alleged failures, security concerns and the procurement of new police uniforms. The uniform claims remain allegations made by opposition politicians; the National Police Service has denied a reported link between the KSh2.8 billion tender and Nalitex.
