Description (show more)
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned newly trained National Police Reservists against misusing firearms, cautioning that the government will take legal action against anyone who uses the weapons for personal gain or to threaten communities. Murkomen was speaking in Magado, Meru County, where he presided over the passing-out parade of 705 newly trained National Police Reservists. The CS urged the reservists to remain vigilant in their areas of deployment, work closely with other security agencies and ensure criminals are brought to justice. He cautioned them against incitement and being used by politicians for selfish interests, urging them instead to serve with discipline, integrity and professionalism. Murkomen described the joint training of the reservists as a first, saying it will help strengthen relations among communities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing the participation of women in the National Police Reserve, acknowledging the women who graduated. The CS said the government will also implement recommendations arising from Jukwaa la Usalama as part of broader efforts to strengthen security.
