Mombasa United host Kariobangi Sharks in promotion playoff first leg

Mombasa United will host Kariobangi Sharks on Thursday afternoon in the first leg of the Kenya Premier League promotion and relegation playoffs. After almost three months of back and forth, the Football Kenya Federation bowed down to pressure and changed their earlier stand of no playoffs and followed the court orders that directed the league to start under the 2019 FKF rules. Under those rules, the third team in the National Super League plays the third from bottom team in the Kenya Premier League to determine the 18th team to join the KPL. Mombasa United had a good run in the NSL but stumbled in the last few matches to drop from first to third. They are now preparing for two of their biggest matches, the two legs playoffs against Sharks. They host the first leg at the Mbaraki Stadium before the second leg in Nairobi next week on Tuesday. Kariobangi Sharks arrived in Mombasa on Tuesday for the match that will be free entry for all fans.
