Civil society warns of election-related violence ahead of 2027 polls
Description (show more)
Civil society organisations are warning of the likelihood of election-related violence ahead of the 2027 General Election, citing Kenya's shrinking civic space and calling for government accountability and respect for the rule of law. The organisations released a report on the state of human rights as the Law Society of Kenya called on Parliament to expressly provide for the livestreaming of polling station results ahead of the 2027 polls. LSK warned that any attempt to weaken public scrutiny of election results would be challenged in court. The lawyers' body also raised concerns over the state of governance and accountability in public institutions.
