Former President Uhuru Kenyatta to hand over Jubilee Party's leadership
Description (show more)
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has agreed to hand over the Jubilee Party chairmanship following a High Court ruling that bars retired presidents from holding leadership positions in political parties. A statement signed by Jubilee Party’s deputy secretary general Zack Kinuthia says the ruling has provided the legal clarity needed to complete the long-delayed transition of the party leadership. Meanwhile, Azimio la Umoja coalition party leader Kalonzo Musyoka says he will convene a joint session of the party’s council and national executive committee to consider whether the former president should continue serving as the Azimio’s council chairperson.
