Kindiki urges Mt Kenya leaders to heed elders’ call for unity

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Mt Kenya leaders to respect elders and heed their call for unity. Kindiki told leaders from the Mt Kenya region not to allow political differences to tear apart communities with a shared history and common interests. He said elders have a unique role in protecting the unity of the community because, unlike politicians, they are not competing for elective positions or political influence, and their decisions should therefore be respected. Speaking in Tharaka, Kindiki dismissed claims by his opponents that he is unfit to serve as the community spokesperson following his coronation by regional elders.
