Court of Appeal upholds ruling barring NPSC from recruiting police constables
Description (show more)
The Court of Appeal has upheld a decision that bars the National Police Service Commission from recruiting police constables. The court has held that the recruitment of police officers rests with the National Police Service. A unanimous three-judge bench comprising Justices Patrick Kiage, Jamila Mohammed and Jessie Lesiit dismissed consolidated appeals filed by the NPSC and the Law Society of Kenya. The Court of Appeal affirmed a 2025 decision by Justice Hellen Wasilwa, agreeing that the NPSC is not a national security organ and therefore lacks the constitutional authority to recruit police officers.
