Government reforms boost farmers’ earnings, but challenges persist

From subsidised fertiliser to cheaper sexed semen and faster coffee payments, government interventions are reshaping some of Kenya’s key agricultural value chains. Farmers say the reforms under the Kenya Kwanza administration have brought relief, improved earnings and renewed hope. But they want more and faster action. Delays in implementing some of the interventions, coupled with persistent market challenges and high production costs, continue to eat into their gains. Kamau Mwangi reports.
