My family took our property and chased us away
Description (show more)
Dorcas Wairimu grew up in a large family of thirteen children, where life was anything but easy. From an early age, she and her siblings faced rejection from relatives, especially their uncles and aunts. Even after sponsors stepped in to build them houses and provide food along with other basic needs, the family was chased away from their own home. The sense of belonging and stability that most children enjoy was denied to them, leaving Dorcas with a heavy burden on her young shoulders. In an attempt to ease the struggles at home, Dorcas made the difficult decision to marry immediately after completing class eight. She hoped that marriage would bring relief and a chance at a better life. Instead, it became her worst nightmare. Her husband turned out to be abusive and unsupportive, forcing her to return home with her child. What she thought would be an escape from hardship only added to her pain. Back at home, Dorcas found her mother struggling to provide for the remaining children. Putting food on the table was a daily battle, and the weight of poverty pressed down on the entire family. Despite these challenges, Dorcas has not given up hope. Her plea is simple yet profound: she longs for a good job that would allow her to support her family and give her child a brighter future. More than that, she dreams of her mother having a permanent home in the village—a place where she can care for her children peacefully, without the constant fear of displacement. Dorcas’s story is one of resilience in the face of rejection, hardship, and broken dreams. Her voice carries the hope that someone, somewhere, will hear her cry and extend a hand of compassion—whether through offering her employment or helping her mother secure a safe home for the family.
