Most commercial banks breached rules in 2025

The local banking industry is swimming in profits, but the Central Bank now says many banks have been playing fast and loose with the rules. The CBK’s 2025 Bank Supervision Annual Report says 35 of the country’s 38 commercial banks were in violation of banking requirements at the end of the year, up from just 11 a year earlier. Most of the breaches centred on how banks priced their loans, with the regulator penalising 33 lenders after inspections. Here now is Jasmine Wambui with the details of that report.
