Kenya confirms ninth Ebola case as US raises travel advisory

Description (show more)

Kenya has confirmed a ninth case of Ebola, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to nine, including one death. The Ministry of Health says the eight surviving patients are responding well to treatment, as contact tracing and quarantine measures continue. Director-General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth says the latest case involves a 24-year-old man who is a close family member of the index case. The man tested positive on October 19 after developing symptoms while in quarantine, having previously been identified as a known contact. The Ministry says all nine cases are linked to a single known cluster, with no evidence of transmission beyond the group. It maintains that the outbreak remains under control, with the eight surviving patients responding well to treatment. Meanwhile, the first group of contacts is expected to complete the mandatory 21-day monitoring period and begin returning home. The update comes as the United States raises its travel advisory for Kenya from Level Two to Level Three, urging American citizens to reconsider travel to the country.
