Ruto: Safaricom, Kenya Pipeline funds to finance agricultural reforms

Description (show more)

President William Ruto says part of the funds raised from the sale of government shares in Safaricom and Kenya Pipeline will be used to reform Kenya’s agriculture sector. Speaking during the first Agriculture and Food Security Summit at Jamhuri Park, President Ruto said part of the 320 billion shillings held in the National Infrastructure Fund will be used to construct 1,250 dams. The dams are aimed at moving Kenyan farmers away from dependence on unpredictable rain-fed agriculture towards irrigation, in a bid to address recurrent crop failures and strengthen food security. Gatete Njoroge reports.
