Rising digital debt raises concerns over financial inclusion gains

Rising digital debt and reckless financial inclusion are eroding gains being made through mobile lending platforms. The African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations, ACCOSCA, says financial inclusion must go beyond access to loans and focus on improving the financial wellbeing of individuals and communities. These concerns dominated discussions during a visit by Botswana’s Vice President and Minister of Finance, Ndaba Gaolathe, to the organisation’s headquarters in Nairobi. Maryanne Nyambura reports.
