Nyeri orders riverbank evictions as counties prepare for El Niño rains

The Nyeri County Government has ordered the immediate relocation of individuals living along riverbanks and waterways as it revamps its El Niño preparedness strategy in a bid to save lives. The order by Governor Mutahi Kahiga comes as counties race against time to ensure they are disaster-ready by the time heavy rains hit. In Nairobi County, the county government has waived approval requirements for minor building repairs for landlords and homeowners across the city to allow them to adequately prepare.
