Catholic clergy urge aspiring leaders to invest in education and service
Description (show more)
Catholic clergy have called on leaders seeking elective and other leadership positions to invest in education, saying effective leadership requires knowledge, preparation and an understanding of the needs of the people they serve. Speaking during a farewell mass in honour of Sister Mary Purity Wawira Ireri in Embu, the clergy, led by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, alongside Archbishop Anthony Muheria, Cardinal John Njue and Bishop Peter Kimani, urged aspiring leaders not to view leadership merely as a pursuit of political power or public recognition, but as a responsibility that demands competence, sound judgment and a commitment to service. The call comes as political activity gradually intensifies ahead of future electoral contests, placing renewed focus on the qualifications, preparedness and accountability of those seeking public trust. Beyond the message on leadership, the farewell mass celebrated Sister Purity’s contribution to religious life and the wider community.
