Her life took a difficult turn in Form Two when she became pregnant—pressured by the desire to live the kind of life she saw her peers enjoying. She admired their lifestyles and, influenced by that longing, got involved with a boy who fathered her child. After giving birth, Juliet dropped out of school. But two years later, determined to reclaim her education, she sat for her Form Four exams. Later, she met some friends who introduced her to a job—though at first, she didn’t fully understand what kind of work it was. She was handed costumes and, for the first time, witnessed a world she had never imagined: women confidently entertaining customers in clubs. Juliet was introduced to pole dancing and the different tiers of club service—regular and VIP. She was taught how to please customers, including routines like hourly showers and costume changes. One day, a customer requested a private show, paying KSh 9,000. After the performance, he tipped each of them KSh 5,000. Another client arrived with his wife, paid KSh 18,000 for a private room, only to discover that his wife was a lesbian. Juliet and her colleagues also received outside bookings, and on one occasion, she and a friend were tipped KSh 50,000 each.
