Judiciary calls for stronger community-based dispute resolution under AJS
Description (show more)
The Judiciary has urged Alternative Justice System practitioners to strengthen community-based dispute resolution by ensuring fairness, identifying cases that qualify for AJS, and securing formal court recognition of agreements reached outside the courtroom. Speaking during the official launch of AJS Week at Makadara Law Courts, judicial officers and AJS stakeholders highlighted the need for public sensitisation, proper case management and improved data collection to enhance access to justice. Justice James Wakiaga cautioned practitioners against assuming the role of judges in community-based dispute resolution, emphasizing the need to operate within the established legal framework.
