Ruto to Ban Flights and Political Gatherings? Why He Missed Chivayo's Burial | Ebola Rumours

Description (show more)

Kenya has confirmed an imported Bundibugyo virus disease case, and claims about a lockdown, flight bans and political-gathering restrictions are spreading online. What has actually been confirmed? We review WHO’s guidance and reported public-health measures, and assess the claim that the case was fabricated for funding. We found no credible evidence supporting that allegation. In this update, we also look at the reported five-sitting-day suspension of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and the reported burial arrangements for Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke. Correction and context: WHO confirms it is supporting Kenya’s outbreak response, but that fact alone does not prove the separate allegation about Ruto’s motive. WHO advises against travel or trade restrictions on Kenya, Uganda or the DRC based on the information available. We found no credible confirmation of a national lockdown, foreign-flight ban or political-gathering ban. Details may change as authorities release new information.
