Sheila Bahati was born in Migori. She is a mother of one child, and at the same time, she takes care of her four younger siblings. Her mother passed away in December last year, leaving Sheila with heavy responsibilities. Life at home had never been easy—her mother had struggled greatly to provide for the family. After completing Class 8, Sheila decided to get married in hopes of easing the burden on her mother. A woman approached her and told her that her brother was in need of a wife. Without even meeting him, Sheila agreed to marry him. Unfortunately, after her mother’s death, things took a devastating turn. Her extended family took away all of her mother’s belongings. They did not even wait for the burial to be completed before chasing Sheila and her siblings out of the house. Life became increasingly difficult. The man Sheila was living with began bringing other women into the home. Disturbingly, he forced Sheila and her siblings to watch while he was intimate with these women. This left them traumatized and deeply hurt. Now, Sheila and her siblings live in very poor conditions. They struggle daily to find food, and they do not even have mattresses to sleep on.
