Kwale Records 25 SGBV Convictions in 2026 as Fight Against Gender-Based Violence Gains Momentum
Description (show more)
The fight against Sexual and Gender-Based violence in Kwale County has made strides, with at least 25 incidents leading to convictions in 2026. The locals and civil society organisations say the strides are due to stronger collaboration between community organizations and government agencies. During the same period, a nongovernmental rights organization handled 2,940 cases involving sexual and gender-based violence, child neglect, assault and related concerns, while supporting efforts that have also resulted in one acquittal in SGBV cases. The organization is working with the police, the Judiciary and the Children’s Department to strengthen reporting, support survivors and improve access to justice. SHOFCO Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kennedy Odede, says coordinated efforts among the institutions are essential in ensuring survivors receive support.
