Salama accident claims 17 lives as road deaths hit 20 in 24 hours

JEFF: It was a scene of pain and tears at the Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital mortuary in Makueni County, as families gathered to collect the bodies of 17 people who died in Saturday’s Salama accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. OLIVE: The 17 victims, members of St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church in Mikindani, Mombasa, were travelling to Subukia in Nakuru County for the National Prayer Day when their journey was tragically cut short. As our reporter Serfine Achieng’ Ouma now tells us, the death toll from road accidents in the past 24 hours has risen to 20, following three other fatalities in separate accidents in Kuresoi North and Mau Summit in Nakuru County, and Kithimani in Machakos County.
