Stakeholders raise concerns over proposed Dangote refinery in Lamu

Description (show more)

Stakeholders have raised concerns over the proposed Dangote refinery in Lamu, saying key issues remain unresolved. These include rising security threats in Boni Forest, limited community involvement and a shortage of crude oil. During this year’s International Policy Group meeting, stakeholders insisted that the project must address these concerns despite its potential economic benefits. The government says it is working to resolve the challenges, including sourcing crude oil from South Sudan after Uganda opted to route its oil through Tanzania. It maintains that the project will proceed, but with caution.
