Three people have died, and several others sustained injuries after a car crashed and burst into flames at Kenol Stage near Raila Odinga Stadium along Ngong Road in Nairobi on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:25 am when the vehicle, reportedly travelling at high speed from the Ngong side, lost control, hit the pavement and veered off the road.

According to local media reports, eyewitnesses said the car struck a woman who was waiting for a matatu before bursting into flames moments later.

The woman died at the scene, while two other people who sustained injuries were rushed to hospital.

However, at the time of reporting, authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the crash as investigations continue.

Concerns Over Road Safety and NTSA Crackdown

This accident has renewed concerns over road safety across the country, despite intensified crackdowns by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and other agencies targeting reckless driving and unroadworthy vehicles on major roads and highways.

The crash occurred just four days after a head-on collision involving a bus and a lorry killed at least 22 people along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The victims were members of Power of the Word Church International and the Mombasa Pastors Fellowship who were returning from Lugari, Kakamega County, where they had attended their bishop’s burial.

NTSA reported on October 29 that an inter-agency team had detained 13 vehicles during a safety compliance operation along the Southern Bypass the previous night.

“Last night, the inter-agency team conducted a safety compliance check along the Southern Bypass, during which thirteen (13) motor vehicles were detained.”

According to the authority, officers identified several safety violations involving both drivers and vehicles.

Among the concerns were driving under the influence of alcohol, expired driving licences, expired inspection stickers and operating vehicles without valid insurance. Officers also found vehicles contravening insurance terms, as well as those with broken headlights and cracked windscreens.

NTSA said the operation forms part of ongoing road safety enforcement targeting motorists and vehicles that pose risks to other road users.

The latest incidents have renewed the focus on traffic regulation compliance, as authorities continue enforcement operations while investigations into individual crashes establish their causes.
