Kenyan agriculture students are getting an 11-month internship opportunity at Israel Arava International Centre for Agricultural Training (AICAT).

The annual internship program has trained over 1,000 agriculture students from academic institutes in countries mainly from Africa and Asia.

The students are from the University of Nairobi, JKUAT, Egerton University, Kenyatta University, Kenya Water Institute, Turkana County, and Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology.

The main focus of the program is to impart professional, theoretical, and practical know-how and skills in advanced agricultural studies to the students.

The program aims for trainees, on return to their countries, to gain better and more advanced agriculture and food production knowledge.

They will be attached to various farms specializing in Dates, Capsicum, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Cherry Tomatoes, Melons, Water Melons, Table Grapes, Herbs, and Dairy Farming.

The mode of farming is mechanized agriculture through drip irrigation.

The trainees will also get professional guided tours to different parts of Israel providing the students with a unique and rich experience.

Most students who have participated in the program have taken up active agriculture and farming projects upon returning home with others securing Masters scholarships both in Israel and the US to advance their studies.
