Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will take his presidential campaign to Migori and Homa Bay counties this week as he seeks to consolidate support in Luo Nyanza ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo will lead a two-day Ukombozi Tour starting Thursday, November 5, with rallies and meet-the-people engagements in the two counties as the opposition intensifies efforts to challenge President William Ruto.

The tour comes days after Kalonzo ruled out joining Ruto's government, insisting that he would face the President at the ballot in next year's elections.

“I have seen the headlines quoting Kalonzo, that people are looking for me. My answer is no, no! You don’t expect Kalonzo Musyoka to go to the government. It can’t be possible,” he said on Sunday.

He has also declared confidence in his presidential bid, urging leaders aligned with his candidature to demonstrate their support as opposition parties negotiate how to challenge Ruto.

On Thursday, Kalonzo's entourage will begin its Migori engagements at Ntimaru in Kuria at noon before proceeding to Kehancha at 2pm.

The team is expected at Posta Grounds in Migori town at 4pm for the day's main engagement.

The party has invited residents to turn out for the meetings, describing the campaign as the Ukombozi Tour.

“Migori and Homa Bay, are you ready? The Ukombozi Tour is coming! Tukutane ground,” the campaign message reads.

The visits come amid growing political competition in Luo Nyanza, a region whose voting bloc is expected to be significant in the 2027 presidential contest.

Kalonzo has previously argued that he can attract support in the region, citing his political association with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he supported as a running mate in three presidential elections.

The Wiper leader's push into the region also comes amid tensions within the opposition over leadership and the eventual choice of a presidential candidate.

Kalonzo was heckled during the October 30 launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Nairobi, exposing differences among opposition supporters over who should lead the coalition in 2027.

The incident prompted debate among political leaders, with some questioning the treatment of the former Vice-President and others defending the right of supporters to express their preferences.

Kalonzo's tour also follows calls by some leaders from the region for him to join the broad-based government, overtures he has rejected.

The opposition has yet to settle on a joint presidential candidate, with several leaders positioning themselves for the contest as they seek to build a united front against Ruto.

‎The Migori and Homa Bay meetings will provide Kalonzo with an opportunity to rally supporters and strengthen his political presence in the region as consultations over the opposition's 2027 strategy continue.
