Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, on Saturday, April 11, took issue with President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Sen. Lindsey Graham as he seeks reelection in the 2026 midterm elections.
The Georgia Republican, who left Congress earlier this year, took to her X handle to lay bare what she sees as a troubling pattern in Trump’s choices for allies in Washington.
Greene recalled speaking at a 2024 Trump rally in Pickens County, South Carolina, Graham’s home turf, where she slammed endless funding for the Ukraine war and called for an end to American entanglement in overseas conflicts.
Trump witnessed the cheers and jeers.
She said the crowd cheered her in support but jeered Graham when he stepped onto the podium a few minutes later.
According to Geeene, the booing of Graham indicated that he was unwelcome, and the policy (supporting the Iran-U.S. war) he has been advocating in recent days was also unwelcome.
Greene notes that President Trump was there that day to witness as the alleged rejection unfolded, yet now, facing Graham’s 2026 reelection fight, the president has thrown his full weight behind him.
In his Truth Social post on Friday, April 10, Trump praised Graham as someone who “gets things done” and won’t let supporters down, urging South Carolina voters to deliver a big win.
Even though Graham has a long history of pushing for more foreign aid, military interventions, and close ties to establishment figures, which run counter to Trump’s isolationist streak that fueled his rise to power, he still got the endorsement.
Greene argues that the vast majority of Trump’s endorsements go to politicians who reliably defend the swamp establishment and the deep state.
These are the same insiders, she claims, that voters hoped to sweep out in 2024. Instead of rewarding outsiders who challenge the status quo, Trump appears to be shielding longtime players who know how to navigate and protect the system.
“Open your eyes and get out of the cult,” Greene wrote, directing her message squarely at Trump loyalists.
MTG, who fully supported President Trump’s reelection, now wants voters to see Trump’s endorsement as a warning sign that the endorsed candidate will follow the same path that many Americans don’t trust.
Greene went further, linking such backing to potential funding from AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobbying group she accuses of placing Israel’s interests ahead of America’s own.
Greene’s call to voters
Her call was for voters to reject the reflex to follow any endorsement and instead back candidates who put America First above all else, with no exceptions for foreign wars, blank-check aid packages, or special-interest influence.
The remarks by MTG give a clear picture of the growing friction inside the broader MAGA movement. Trump built his brand on draining the swamp and avoiding needless conflicts abroad.
Supporters in most of his rallies cheered his skepticism of endless engagements in places like Ukraine and the Middle East. Trump took a dramatic twist after he regained power, which saw him start another war with Iran. At least 13 U.S. service members have died since the war started on February 28.
Trump has also clashed with key conservative media personalities and political commentators who are opposed to the Iran war, including Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, whom he said have low I-Qs.
Greene believes that loyalty to figures like Graham reveals a cult of personality taking root, where personal allegiance to Trump overrides the principles that got him elected.
She says that blindly supporting Trump-endorsed candidates could lead to the same old problems in Washington, such as high defense spending, interventions that waste American resources, and policies more influenced by lobbyists than by voters.
Meanwhile, Trump commands fierce loyalty, and many voters still see him as the best check on the deep-state forces he once promised to confront.
