Google has launched a new digital learning platform dubbed Skilling Africa with Google. This platform aims to expand access to digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills across the continent.
The platform brings together more than 15 Google training initiatives. These include Google Career Certificates, Hustle Academy and Google Cloud Skills, into a single learning hub.
The platform is designed to help address Africa’s growing shortage of AI-ready talent. Google reports that more than 90% of companies face a shortage of workers with the necessary AI skills.
Google aims to equip 3 million people across Africa with digital and AI skills by 2030.
Learners can access the platform through Google’s website using a Google account. It offers short lessons covering AI, cloud computing, digital skills, entrepreneurship and career development.
Users can also download lessons over Wi-Fi and complete them without an active internet connection.
Google has also introduced SCOUT (Smart Companion for Online Understanding and Training). This is an AI-powered Study Buddy that provides personalised learning support.
“Africa has a significant opportunity to shape the future of AI, but unlocking that opportunity will require people with the skills to build, use and innovate with these technologies,” said Alex Okosi, Managing Director, Google Africa.
The Skilling Africa with Google platform is free and open to everyone across the continent.
Learners can access the platform through the Skilling Africa with Google website.
