Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged Ikanga/Kyatune Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka with stealing 42 mobile phones valued at Ksh. 609,000 from a shop along Luthuli Avenue, Nairobi.

Musyoka was arraigned before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on October 22, 2026.

He denied the charge.

Court heard that the alleged theft occurred on August 5, 2026, when 42 Itel City 200 smartphones, valued at Ksh. 14,500 each, were reportedly stolen from a mobile phone shop belonging to Dahir Adan Mohamud.

Investigators have linked the accused to two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi in August and September 2026, involving consignments valued at Ksh1.8 million and Ksh.420,000, respectively.

The prosecution estimates the total value of phones allegedly stolen in the three incidents at Ksh. 4,906,050.

Prosecution opposed the accused’s release on bail, citing concerns over his alleged previous failure to attend court proceedings, arguing that he posed a risk of absconding.

Separately, investigators have sought 15 days to detain him to complete investigations, including recording witness statements, conducting forensic analysis of CCTV footage and pursuing suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that Musyoka be remanded at Kamukunji Police Station pending a further hearing on November 5, 2026, when the court will consider the prosecution’s application opposing bail and the request for further detention.
