Airtel Kenya Increases Airtel Money Transfer and Withdrawal Fees

Airtel Kenya has revised its Airtel Money transaction charges, increasing the fees users pay for mobile transfers to other mobile networks and cash withdrawals.

Under the new tariff structure, additional charges have been introduced, affecting users who rely on mobile money services for daily transactions.

While Airtel-to-Airtel transfers remain free, customers sending money to other networks and withdrawing cash from Airtel Money agents will now pay more under the updated charges.

“We have waived all person to person transaction fees for Airtel Money customers across all the bands. Further to this, in boosting and supporting the SME and micro business enterprise, together with the Central Bank of Kenya we have also revised the transaction limits for Airtel Money,” read part of the statement.

Under the revised tariff structure, transfers to other networks have increased across most transaction bands.

For instance, sending amounts between KSh 101 and KSh 500 previously attracted a charge of KSh 6, but users will now pay KSh 7.

Customers transferring between KSh 501 and KSh 1,000 will now pay KSh 13, up from the previous KSh 11, while transactions between KSh 1,001 and KSh 1,500 have increased from KSh 20 to KSh 33.

The highest increases are seen among larger transactions. Sending between KSh 1,501 and KSh 2,500 now costs KSh 53, compared to the previous KSh 30, while transfers between KSh 3,501 and KSh 5,000 have risen from KSh 50 to KSh 78.

Previous Airtel Money Tariffs Compared to New Charges

Before the revision, Airtel Money users paid lower charges for transfers to other networks and withdrawals. Transactions between KSh 101 and KSh 500 were subject to a KSh 6 transfer fee, but the same transaction band now costs KSh 7.

Previously, users were charged KSh 25 for withdrawals in transaction bands ranging from KSh 101 to KSh 2,500. Under the new tariff structure, withdrawals within these bands have increased to KSh 29.

Airtel Money Transaction Limits

The company has also retained the transaction limits for its customers’ mobile services.

The maximum amount allowed per transaction remains KSh 250,000, while the daily transaction limit stands at KSh 500,000. The maximum Airtel Money wallet balance remains capped at KSh 500,000.

Also, Airtel-to-Airtel transfers continue to attract no charges across all transaction bands, allowing customers within the Airtel network to send money without paying transfer fees.
