The board of Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has appointed Ronoh Kibet Charles as Managing Director and CEO designate.

Mr. Kibet, an executive with more than 17 years of experience in geothermal development, project delivery and commercial strategy, will assume the role on 1st February, 2027, succeeding Eng. Peter Waweru Njenga upon his retirement. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process. The transition period will allow for an orderly handover and continuity in the company’s strategic priorities.

Mr. Kibet currently serves as KenGen’s General Manager for Commercial Services, overseeing energy markets, investments, new business and partnerships, marketing and corporate communication, and sustainability. His career combines engineering and commercial leadership, with contributions to renewable energy development, the expansion of KenGen’s international consultancy services and the advancement of the Olkaria Green Energy Park.

The leadership change comes as KenGen pursues business diversification alongside its electricity generation operations. During Mr Njenga’s tenure as managing director and chief executive, the company strengthened its financial performance, reporting a profit after tax of Ksh10.48 billion for the 2025 financial year. It also expanded its geothermal consultancy portfolio, including assignments in Eswatini. The board, management and staff thanked Eng. Njenga for his leadership and contribution to the company’s growth and wished him well in retirement.
