Organisers say correcting aggressive driving habits such as unnecessary idling, hard braking, and poor gear selection can deliver immediate reductions in fuel burn and significantly reduce wear and tear on heavy goods vehicles.

Trucking companies operating along the Northern Corridor have launched a driver retraining scheme to tackle spiralling diesel bills, high maintenance overheads, and persistent border delays across East Africa.

The initiative, organised by the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) alongside the Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) and training firm Andragogy Insights and Success Strategies, aims to lower operating expenses while cutting carbon emissions and improving road safety along the regional trade artery.

The training focuses on practical eco-driving techniques, teaching long-distance lorry drivers to adopt smoother acceleration, change gear more efficiently, and anticipate road hazards earlier.
