Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank Kenya) Limited has announced the departure of its Managing Director, Jubril Adeniji, following the expiry of his tenure and his recall to the bank’s parent institution, Guaranty Trust Bank Limited in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the bank’s board of directors, GT Bank Kenya said Adeniji will remain in office for the next 90 days to facilitate a smooth leadership transition as the lender seeks regulatory approval for the appointment of a new Managing Director.

“During this period, the Bank will complete the transition process while seeking the necessary regulatory approvals for the appointment of a new Managing Director,” the bank stated.

The lender praised Adeniji for his leadership during a period of significant transformation at the bank.

GTBank Kenya Leadership Transition

According to the board, his tenure saw GTBank Kenya strengthen its shareholding and governance framework, improve the quality of its earning asset portfolio, and enhance its internal control environment.

The bank also embarked on a strategic plan to grow its market share and strengthen its workforce to support long-term sustainability.

In its statement, the board expressed gratitude for Adeniji’s contribution to the bank and wished him success in his next assignment within the broader GTCO Group.

“The Board extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Adeniji for his contribution, leadership and dedicated service to GTBank Kenya during his tenure,” the lender said.

The exit comes as GT Bank Kenya seeks to maintain stability during the transition period.

The board said Adeniji’s continued stay over the next three months will allow for an effective transfer of responsibilities before a successor takes over.

Despite the leadership change, the bank sought to reassure customers, employees, shareholders and regulators that its operations remain stable and uninterrupted.

The board said GTBank Kenya remains committed to delivering quality banking services and creating sustainable value for stakeholders during and after the transition process.

The lender did not disclose the identity of Adeniji’s successor but said the process of appointing a new Managing Director is underway and is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
