NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has set November 24, 2026, as the date for the election of five sugar grower representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board, following delays linked to a court case over the electoral process.
In a notice, the ministry said the election would be conducted in line with the Sugar Act 2024, the applicable legal framework and court orders.
The election process began with a call for applications on May 12, 2026, which was later extended on August 7. The Elections Committee published the final list of candidates on August 20, while the final voters register has since been published on the Kenya Sugar Board’s website and displayed at designated facilities.
The polls had earlier been delayed after a court case challenged aspects of the election process, including the zoning of sugar grower representatives. A farmer from Malava, Kakamega County, had moved to court seeking a separate electoral zone, arguing that the existing arrangement did not adequately represent growers in the area.
