NAIROBI,Kenya Oct 31 – Kenya Airways has introduced a new duty-free shopping service that will allow passengers to order products online before travelling and have their purchases delivered directly to their seats onboard.
The service, launched at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday, October 30, will become operational on November 1, 2026, under a five-year partnership with Safari Duty Free.
The airline says the new platform will offer products at prices up to 15 per cent lower than those charged at airport duty-free shops, with customers also receiving an additional five per cent discount on all webstore purchases until November 30, 2026.
Passengers will be able to place orders from 40 days before departure up to 72 hours before their scheduled flights through a mobile-friendly platform that allows them to browse products, compare prices, make payments and track their purchases.
Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu said the partnership was aimed at improving the passenger experience by offering greater convenience, choice and value.
Safari Duty Free Managing Director Vivek Mehra said customers would be able to make payments in Kenyan shillings, US dollars, British pounds and euros, using their cards without the transaction limits sometimes experienced during onboard purchases.
The product range will include fragrances, skincare products, watches, jewellery, eyewear, electronics, children’s items and travel accessories. Passengers will also have access to Kenya Airways-branded merchandise, selected Kenyan products and gift sets.
Under the five-year agreement, Safari Duty Free will manage the airline’s inflight retail programme, including product selection, brand partnerships, merchandising, online operations and customer service.
Kenya Airways Acting Chief Operations Officer Captain Paul Njoroge said the two partners would coordinate inventory management, order fulfilment and onboard deliveries to ensure a seamless shopping experience.
He added that the airline was considering extending the service to its airport lounges, allowing passengers to shop while waiting for their flights.
Kenya Airports Authority General Manager for Operations and Safety Dr Simon Peter Njoroge welcomed the partnership, saying it would contribute to improving passenger experiences across Kenyan airports.
The new shopping programme will be available across Kenya Airways’ network of 42 destinations worldwide, including 35 in Africa.
Passengers can access the service through the Kenya Airways Duty-Free Webstore at www.dutyfree.kenya-airways.com from November 1, 2026.
