Kenya Pipeline Company has proposed extending its petroleum pipeline network to Kigali, a move the company says would improve supply reliability and deepen regional integration.
The proposal was outlined during an investor roadshow in Kigali, Rwanda, on November 1, 2026, where KPC presented both its growth strategy and its latest financial performance.
Pius Mwendwa, KPC’s Acting Managing Director and CEO, described Rwanda as an important market for the company’s regional expansion. He said the proposed extension would enhance supply reliability and efficiency, as well as support integration across the region.
KPC currently moves petroleum products through its pipeline network from coastal facilities to inland and regional markets.
At the same event, Acting Chief Financial Officer Anthony Ndegwa presented KPC’s results for the 2025/26 financial year. Profit after tax rose 13 per cent to Ksh11.58 billion, while group revenue grew 9 per cent to Ksh43 billion.
The company said it is pursuing growth through investments in pipeline expansion, storage capacity, infrastructure modernisation and partnerships across East Africa.
KPC’s ownership has changed significantly in recent years. The Kenyan government sold 65 per cent of the company through an initial public offering at Ksh9 per share and retained a 35 per cent stake. Trading in KPC shares began on the Nairobi Securities Exchange on March 9, 2026.
Uganda National Oil Company holds approximately 20.15 per cent of KPC. Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote acquired about 4.5 billion shares, or roughly 24.76 per cent, in a transaction valued at approximately Ksh42.5 billion. The acquisition made him the second-largest shareholder.
President William Ruto has defended the sale of shares to Dangote amid criticism from some political leaders and market commentators. He argued that the acquisition involved a private investor using his own funds, and said the government would not allow intermediaries to buy shares at lower prices for resale at a profit. He also pointed to the rise in KPC’s share price after the transaction and projected further growth.
The timing of the proposed Kigali extension has not been announced.
