Kenya Pipeline Company PLC (KPC PLC) hosted the inaugural cohort of its Inuka Tech Fellowship at its headquarters on September 22, 2026. The event brought together young technology professionals, program partners, and KPC PLC leadership to celebrate the progress of a market-led skills development program designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and gainful employment.

During the visit, the fellows toured KPC PLC’s headquarters to observe daily operations firsthand and engaged directly with members of the KPC leadership team.

The Inuka Tech Fellowship operates under the KPC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of KPC PLC. Established in 2016 and registered as a Charitable Trust in 2023, the Foundation drives the company’s Corporate Social Investment initiatives, supported by KPC PLC’s commitment of at least 1% of its profits to community programs.

The six-month, in-person fellowship follows an apprenticeship-style model combining technical training, real-world simulations, mentorship, and peer learning. Fellows build practical competencies in Python, machine learning, dashboard development, automation tools, and data storytelling, applying these skills to challenges across energy, fintech, healthcare, logistics, retail, and the public sector.

Out of more than 1,000 applicants, only 30 fellows were selected for the inaugural cohort. The program also prioritizes diversity and inclusion, with women making up 50% of the cohort.

Beyond classroom instruction, fellows gain practical exposure through industry attachments and real-world projects:

  • iHub Hackathon: The 30 fellows participated in a hackathon at the iHub center in Lavington, Nairobi. Working in teams, they developed digital solutions for a KPC Foundation technology challenge aimed at improving beneficiary tracking, reporting, and impact management.
  • Workplace Simulations: The structured program mirrors actual workplace environments, offering masterclasses, global certifications, and access to Power Learn Project’s (PLP) Talent Hub ecosystem.
  • Career Pathways: The fellowship prepares participants for targeted roles, including Fibre Optic Technician, Operational Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Energy Analytics Specialist, Supply Chain Analyst, and Predictive Analytics Engineer.

As the KPC Foundation looks to scale the Inuka Tech Fellowship to reach more young people, it is actively inviting cross-sector partnerships in finance, agriculture, and technology to further expand employment pathways for Kenyan youth.
