The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a plan to auction abandoned goods stored at the Kisumu and Isebania customs warehouses.

In a Gazette notice dated July 17, KRA explained that the goods will be treated as abandoned unless claimed from customs warehouses within 30 days of the notice.

Upon the expiration of the notice period, the authority clarified it will dispose of the items through an online public auction scheduled to run from August 31 to September 4, 2026.

“Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kisumu and Isebania Stations within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA 2004 including being sold by public auction on 31st August, 2026, 1st September, 2026, 2nd September, 2026, 3rd September, 2026 and 4th September, 2026 through an online portal https://ibid.kra.go.ke,” part of the notice read.

Interested buyers will be allowed to inspect the goods at the respective customs warehouses on August 27 and 28 before participating in the bidding process through KRA’s online auction portal https://ibid.kra.go.ke.

Large Ethanol Consignments Dominate Auction List

The majority of items earmarked for disposal consist of ethanol shipments that have remained in storage for extended periods.

Among the consignments is a shipment belonging to Azan Motors Limited comprising 30 jerricans, each containing 25 liters of undenatured ethanol.

In addition, the Kisumu and Isebania customs warehouses have an abandoned consignment linked to Francis Njoroge Njuguna, consisting of 31 drums of ethanol, each carrying 210 liters.

The auction list also includes 35 drums of undenatured ethanol belonging to Salim Otieno, 25 jerricans of ethanol associated with Lucy Nyangati, 37 drums linked to John Wandaka, and several other drum consignments stored at both Kisumu and Isebania warehouses.

One of the oldest consignments listed comprises 101.5 drums of undenatured ethanol, each with a capacity of 250 liters, which has been stored at Isebania Customs Warehouse since 2022.

Cigarettes, Chemicals and Unclaimed Industrial Materials 

In addition to ethanol products, KRA has listed several other goods for disposal, including tobacco products, chemicals, and industrial materials.

A notable consignment consists of 77 and 163 cartons of suspected Super Match cigarettes, stored at the Isebania Customs Warehouse, that have remained unclaimed since 2023.

The authority has also listed two drums of sodium cyanide, each weighing 25 kilograms; eight steel window frames; two rolls of scrap wire; and 31 empty drums, each with a capacity of 250 liters.

Shoes, Toys and Perfumes

The auction will also feature a range of consumer goods, including three boxes of assorted shoes, nine packages of plastic shoes labeled “Davido”, four cartons of children’s toys, two packages of assorted perfumes, and one package containing female open sandals.

According to KRA, the disposal is being undertaken in accordance with Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, which allows customs authorities to auction unclaimed or abandoned cargo.

Further, the exercise is expected to help clear warehouse space while recovering value from goods that have remained uncollected for prolonged periods.
